Manchester, UK (AP) – Old Trafford soccer fans Manchester Synagogue Attack Manchester United were silenced for a minute before the Premier League match against Sunderland on Saturday.
Both teams locked their arms on either side of the centre circle before kickoff and referee Stuart Atwell blows his whi to signal the beginning of silence.
United players wore black armbands with the words “A City United” on them.
Two people were killed in an attack on the Heaton Park meeting on Thursday, and at least three people were seriously injured after a man plunged his car into a pedestrian outside the venue and attacked them with a knife in what authorities called a terrorist attack. On Friday, police said one of the victims appeared to have been accidentally shot by officers as worshippers tried to stop the attacker from entering the building.
The United women were wearing a black armband with Chelsea in their progress against Unity Stadium in Lee, Greater Manchester, on Friday against Chelsea.
Man City will play Brentford on Sunday. The team also plans to wear a black armband to observe the silence.
