I set it New Champions League Records Last time, Erling Haaland is quickly approaching.
The Manchester City striker became the fastest player to score 50 goals in a race against Napoli last month. His half-century was his 49th appearance, destroying the record for 50 Ruud Van Nistelrooy in 62 games.
Now, Lionel Messi’s record is in his vision and appears to be calm again.
Messi is the fastest player to score 60 goals in the top European club soccer competition. He managed it with 80 appearances. Haaland’s double against Monaco on Wednesday means he’s turned 52 after just 50 games.
However, Norwegian International was unable to hide their frustration as the city wasted its victory by admitting a slow penalty against a 2-2 draw.
“That’s not enough,” Haaland said. “We have to try to win the next game, and that’s the only thing we can do.”
Haaland’s goal was twice to City give him the lead with Stade Louis II.
He fired visitors in 15 minutes to level the game after Jordan Teze.
Haaland was hit again on the 44th, but Eric Deer was converted from the spot when Nico Gonzalez was punished for high boots.
Haaland’s latest goal extended his outstanding score at the start of the season.
He currently has 17 goals in 10 games for the club and country. The city’s 2-0 loss to Tottenham in August was the only game he couldn’t score this semester.
