BERLIN (AP) – More fireworks were on the field than Sunday as Union Berlin promoted the hamburger SV in the Bundesliga and drew it 0-0.
Hamburg keeper Daniel Heuer Fernandez saved Andregi Ilic’s early penalty on either team.
The penalty was also overlooked by many of Union’s Ultra fans. Union Ultra Fans were announced with loud roars after 17 minutes, only to flow into their place at the “forest side” edge of the stadium. Hamburg Ultra entered the end of the visitors after a few minutes.
The supporter’s rivalry continued after the break when Hamburg fans showed off a huge TIFO showing the team’s coat of arms with their slogans.
Union fans waited for the countdown before causing a massive synchronized fireworks display illuminating the entire stadium forest, with the resulting smoke causing delays in play for several minutes.
Hamburg fans responded by displaying their own fireworks a few minutes later, with more clouds of smoke floating above the stadium. The game continued, but neither team was able to score.
Hamburg midfielder Fabio Vieira was sent off in stoppage time due to a high tackle from Leopold Querfeld.
It was the fourth competitive meeting between the clubs after two clashes in the second division in 2018-19. Their first meeting was in the 1923 German Championship final. Hamburg won 3-0 out of six German titles.
Stuttgart Revival
Josha Wagnoman scored late as Stuttgart overcame a poor start to beat Cologne 2-1.
Jakub Kaminski fired Cologne first in four minutes, but Ermedin Demirović changed the penalty against visitors on the 28th after being fouled in the area by Cologne Keeper Marvin Schwäbe.
Cologne had dominated until that point. However, Stuttgart improved after the goal and was eventually rewarded when Vagnoman scored in 81st place after being sent by Angelo Stiller.
It was Stuttgart’s first league victory from home and the third consecutive victory in all competitions, including a 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo in the Europa League on Thursday.
Freiburg drew alongside Hoffenheim 1-1 in his early matches.
Bayern Munich leads with up to 15 points from the fifth round, followed by Borussia Dortmund, the only unbeaten side of 13. Leipzig and Eintrak Frankfurt completed the top four.
