LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Liverpool defender Giovanni Leoni is likely to be on the sidelines for “around a year” after toreting the ACL with his left leg, Arne Slot said Friday.
The 18-year-old Italian defender, who joined the offseason from Palma, made his first appearance at Liverpool on Tuesday in Southampton’s English League Cup victory, but his debut ended 81 minutes after awkwardly landing on tackle.
“Of course he’s not in a good place because he tore his ACL, which means he’s going out for about a year,” Slot said.
“You’re so young, you come to a new country and play very well in your first game. It’s very difficult to take the positive side. There’s no positive side, but you’re always trying to do it.
The slot time slot will remain for Liverpool three established centre-backs until the January transfer period. Virgil Vandic, Ibrahima Konate and Jogomez.
Slot said Liverpool is considering winger Federico Chiesa, who will be taking Leoni’s position in the team’s Champions League team this season.
