“Emotions have made me better tonight. I’m going to apologise to all the red families,” he posted on Instagram after the game.
The 23-year-old forward had already been shown a yellow card for dissent after coming as a halftime replacement.
“Isn’t necessary? Yes. It was stupid. The first one was already unnecessary and to some extent you have to control your emotions,” Slot said. “If you score in the Champions League final 87 minutes after outplaying three players and hitting it in the top corner, he’s like, ‘This is about me, what did I do?’
“But I’m old-fashioned, I’m 47 and older, and I’ve never played at this level, but I never scored a few goals.
Ekitike’s latest goal was his fifth goal in eight games for Liverpool after joining the Premier League champions. For $93.5 million from Eintracht Frankfurt July.
