LONDON (AP) — Chelsea manages Cole Palmer’s fitness “day-to-day” and still doesn’t believe the playmaker will need surgery due to his troublesome gro caliber injury, manager Enzo Maresca said Monday.
The England star was kicked out on Saturday in the 21st minute of a 2-1 loss to Manchester United, due to a recurrence of issues that led to missed a Premier League match between West Ham and Fulham before an international break.
Maresca said Chelsea medical staff are still evaluating Palmer’s latest setback.
“It’s more of a game every day, week by week, game by game, see how he’s going and decide what we’re doing,” said the Italian coach, who spoke the day before Chelsea played third tier Lincoln in the English League Cup.
If that means Palmer might need surgery, Maresca said: “Medical staff, they didn’t mention me about the surgery until today.
“I don’t know if it’s going to be the next day or the next few weeks, but I don’t think I’ll be honest.”
