BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Barcelona playmaker Gavi will undergo keyhole surgery to treat injury to a meniscus in her right knee, the club said Monday.
Barcelona said the decision was made to take the procedure after Gavi took a “strength sports stress test” after a more conservative course of treatment.
“The conclusion is that Gabi will undergo arthroscopy (procedure) this Tuesday to ensure the best possible recovery and return to competitive behavior,” the Catalonia Club said.
Gavi, 21, played only two games for Barcelona this season in August.
Barcelona, that Defeat Getafe 3-0 On Sunday, they are two points behind Real Madrid after five Spanish league matches.
They won 2-1 at Newcastle to open the Champions League league phase.
The next Spanish league match will be held in Oviedo on Thursday. The Champions League will then host Paris Saint Germain on October 1st.
Barcelona also said on Monday that midfielder Fermin Lopez would be on the sidelines for about three weeks after suffering a muscle injury to his left leg. He was injured in the team’s victory over Getafe.
