LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Liverpool maintained a perfect start to the Premier League season, when Rien Graygun Burch scored a goal in the first half with a 2-1 victory over Everton on Saturday in the Merseyside Derby.
Liverpool is 5-0, looking to win consecutive league titles for the first time since the 1980s.
Liverpool were sloppy with wrist rests in the big stretches in the second half, with Idrissa Gaye scoring for the first time since opening in Leeds in the 58th minute for Toffee.
Liverpool won their fifth consecutive home game against the Blues for the first time since 1933-37. Everton has not won a game at Anfield, where fans have been involved since 1999. Only victory since Behind the closed rooms in 2021 amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Everton manager David Moys has won 23 games at Anfield alongside Toffee, Manchester United, Sunderland and West Ham.
Liverpool’s top two summer signatures, Alexander Isaac and Florian Wiltz, came in second half as 61st with Whartz and Isaac on the 67th.
Gravenberch placed Liverpool first in the 10th minute of 247th Merseyside Derby when Mohamed Salah lofted a one-hop pass into the pass. The 23-year-old defensive midfielder extended his right foot and lifted the ball over the extended arms of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in a half volley.
Gravenberch made the perfect through pass on the 29th, and Hugo Ekitike slotted Pickford’s feet and the ball inside the Far Post.
Gueye scored on a long-range shot after Iliman Ndiaye tapped Jack Grealish’s cross. According to Opta, Gueye was shy about his 36th birthday the following Friday, becoming the second oldest Everton player to score in the Merseyside Derby behind 37-year-old Sam Chedgzoy in 1926.
Liverpool fans repeatedly serenaded Everton’s supporters with a chant “has not won a trophy since 1995.”
