MADRID (AP) – Spanish police clashed with Marseille fans ahead of the French club and Real Madrid Champions League match on Tuesday.
The conflict began as fans waited to enter Santiago Bernabeu Stadium before the game.
Police officers on riot gear and horse-riding horses used batons to disperse French supporters. Thousands of French fans were expected to play.
The situation was quickly controlled and fans entered the stadium in time for the game.
Palestinian flags are prohibited
Security officers at the Bernabeu did not allow fans to enter the stadium with the Palestinian flag. Confuses the Spanish Vuelta cycling race this weekend. The flag was confiscated by fans who tried to enter with them.
The anti-Israel protests disrupt several stages of Vuelta over three weeks.
Protesters who called for Team Israel’s Premier Tech to be expelled from the Grand Tour event threw barriers on Sunday into the road and clashed with police to prevent the final stage from being completed as originally planned.
