LIVERPOOL, England (AP) – Alexander Isaac is insisting on making Liverpool’s debut against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot confirmed Isak is on the team in the match at Anfield as he didn’t get a striker due to a 1-0 win over Burnley in the Premier League.
Isaac is Signing the UK record for the deadline of $170 million From Newcastle earlier this month, however Liverpool fans had to wait to see Swedish International.
Prior to the match against Atletico, Slot said Isaac could play some role.
“He’s on the team so there’s definitely a chance,” Slot said. “Usually, I say 99.9% are certain, but I can say that he doesn’t play 90 minutes, 100%, but he’s part of the team.”
Isaac has disrupted the offseason in the face of a lingering move to Liverpool.
His only game was as a late replacement for Swedish World Cup qualifying against Kosovo last week.
He scored 32 goals for the club and country, becoming one of Europe’s most popular players last season after helping Newcastle win the British League Cup.
He forms part of Liverpool’s new look after the defending Premier League champions also spent a lot of time on French striker Hugo Ekitike and German attacker Florian Wiltz.
Curtis Jones is unlikely to play after the midfielder misses Burnley’s game, Slot said.
Liverpool is leading the Premier League with four consecutive victories to start the season.
