Foxborough, Massachusetts (AP) — Caleb Porter was fired Monday as coach of the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer, bringing the team back on track to miss out on the playoffs of their second straight win.
New England has eight wins, 14 losses and eight draws. The club is 11th out of 15 Eastern Conference teams, returning 10 points ahead of the final postseason berth with four games remaining.
Porter was like that I was hired in December 2023 To follow the Blues Arena. The revolution ended in 14th place with nine wins, 21 losses and four draws in his first season.
Assistant coach Pablo Molira will be interim head coach for the rest of the season.
New England never won an MLS title and lost five championship games.
Porter, 50, coached Akron from 2006-12, leading ZIPS to the 2010 NCAA title. He left to coach the US Under 23 teams who were unable to qualify for the 2012 Olympics.
He coached the Portland Timbers from 2013-17, defeated Columbus 2-1 in the 2015 MLS Championship Game, coached the crew from 2019-22, defeated Seattle 3-0 in the 2020 title. Porter was named MLS Coach of the Year in 2013.
New England made MLS’s fifth coaching change since the start of the season after Montreal’s departure Laurent Courtois (March 24th), Peter Barmes in Kansas City (March 31), Olohumelberg (May 27) and DC in St. Louis. Troy Resen (July 10th).
