Manchester, England (AP) — Liverpool left behind again and returned to the top of the Premier League.
The defending champions secured a 1-0 victory over Burnley on Sunday and maintained a 100% start of the season thanks to a stop-time penalty from Mohamed Sarah.
Already in this term, Liverpool staged another dramatic finale at Turf Moor after a late winner against Bournemoor.
Arne Slot’s team looked to be dropping points for the first time this season, but was handed a lifeline when Hannibal Mejbri handled the ball in the box and umpire Michael Oliver pointed to the spot and umpire.
Sarah did the rest by fleeing to the celebration before exploding a powerful shot past Burnley goalkeeper Martin Duvravka.
Sarah’s goal was in five minutes of suspension, and he took the sole ownership of fourth place in the Premier League scorer. The Egyptians currently have 188 goals. Behind Alan Shearer (260), Harry Kane (213) and Wayne Rooney (208).
Liverpool’s late joy was an even slower pain for Burnley. The newly promoted lost 3-2 against Manchester United in the final game.
Manchester City will be holding Manchester United on Sunday.
