PARIS (AP) – Teenager Ethan Mbappe, a brother to French superstar Killian, scored his first goal in the French league on Sunday.
Mbappe, who joined the Lille a year ago from Paris Saint-Germain, has come as an alternative with only nine minutes left. He led to a cross in eight minutes of additional time, volleying the ball into the top corner with his left foot.
The technically talented 18-year-old left-footed midfielder was hampered by an injury last season.
The reel dragged to the 90th minute when Nabil Bentaleb scored from a penalty spot and leveled the score after a handball in a box by Rasmus Nikolazen.
Lille controlled the procedure in the first half, opposing the run of play after a 50-minute interval when Frank Magrie defeated the deadlock. Visitors have been reduced to 10 80 minutes after Alexis Vossa was sent off due to a dangerous foul by Benjamin Andre.
Both Mbappe brothers left Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024. While Killian crossed the border to join the Spanish league, Ethan remained in France and signed a three-year deal with Lille.
Defending champions PSG and Lyon are the only aspects to win all the games heading into the fourth round, both active late Sunday. PSG loses star forwards Hausmandembele and Desiredoudoo, both nursing injuries, due to a home game with the Lens while Lyon is away from Rennes.
