Oslo, Norway (AP) – Strange accident At the door of the bus, Erlinghaaland marked the Norwegian national team by scoring five goals in Tuesday’s World Cup qualifiers, beating Moldova 11-1 1.
The Manchester City striker had a hat-trick at halftime, but didn’t stop there. Norway’s second, third, fourth, sixth and tenth goals finished in one of the biggest wins ever in European qualifying for the World Cup.
Haaland reportedly did it all when he left the vehicle at the team hotel in an unusual accident after demanding three stitches for being “slapd” at the bus door, as explained on social media.
Haaland scored two goals from a pass from Arsenal’s Martin Ødegaard. Felix Myhre scored one and made Haaland’s first setup, but Stalo Aasgaard was in an extraordinary position where he scored four goals but was not the top scorer for the team.
Even the Moldova goal was scored by the Norwegian as defender Leo Østigård sent the attempted pass to his net.
This was the biggest victory of this World Cup qualifying cycle in Europe, surpassing the 8-0 victory in Malta in June in the Netherlands and approaching West Germany’s 12-0 victory over Cyprus in 1969.
Moldova ranked 154th in the world and sixth in Europe last, losing all five qualifying games, conceded a total of 25 goals and scored only three.
Still, the quirks of the qualifying system mean that they still could reach the World Cup. Moldova has been awarded the lowest tier Nations league group against Malta and Andorra, and will receive a spot in the playoff round.
