FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Intermiami forward Louis Suarez has been stopped again for his attitude on the field. This time, he won a six-match ban from future League Cup matches in response to his actions in response to someone spitting out after his team lost the Seattle Souders final.
Suarez won’t be able to play in next season’s tournament, and the ban could extend to future seasons. Intermiami played three matches this year in the group phase and three matches in the knockout stage. We headed for the final.
The ban does not apply to major league soccer matches, but Suarez could still face approval from that league. The League Cup is a different competition.
Also, following Seattle’s 3-0 victory, it was sounder coach staff member Stephen Renhardt who was suspended for a future League Cup match in the post-match brawl, who pulled a five-match ban. Intermiami’s Thomas Aviles has been banned for three games. Sergio Basket is banned for two games.
All four will also be fined.
Suarez won the semi-final spot from Ghana by playing infamously deliberate handball in the 2010 World Cup quarterfinals, providing three suspensions to bite the opponent.
Suarez – Long-time teammate of Lionel Messi of Intermi Amister – Apparently he was spewed at a member of the Sounders staff. During the post-match struggle, at least one Seattle player was grabbed by his neck. MLS officials have also been investigating the issue, and Suarez apologized Thursday.
“It should have happened right after the match, but that doesn’t justify my reaction. I was wrong and I truly regret it,” he wrote. “It’s not the image I want to portray, nor is it in my family, nor in my club that I’m suffering because of my mistakes, not in my club that I don’t deserve to be affected by anything like this.”
