Chelsea completed Alyssa Thompson’s signature from Angel City on Friday Latest big money movements In women’s soccer.
US International has signed a reporting fee of approximately £1 million ($1.35 million) over a five-year contract.
“Chelsea is a great club and one of the best clubs in the world. Being able to play with the best players in the world is a great opportunity at such a young age and I want to learn, grow and develop a lot,” the 20-year-old forward said.
Thompson was the first pick in the 2023 NWSL draft and became the first high school student in the league to be drafted.
This season, she has scored six goals in Angel City’s 16 appearances.
“She’s an electric-paced, dynamic winger who can play on either wing and is very good in one-on-one situations,” said Chelsea Paul Green’s women’s soccer director. “Alyssa is one of the best and most exciting young players in the world and we look forward to seeing how she develops during her time with Chelsea.”
A confirmation of Thompson’s move comes on the same day London City Lioness completed his signature from Paris Saint-Germain to French midfielder Grace Gaioro for the reported £1.4 million ($1.88 million).

Chelsea is the dominant force in women’s soccer in the UK, winning six straight women’s super league titles and nine of the past 11.
