Florence, Italy (AP) – Goalkeeper Gianluigi donnarumma He said he would try to improve his ability to pass the ball from behind after moving to Manchester City.
City signed Donnaruma from Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, but he was not known for his build-up skills at his feet. This is usually an important requirement for goalkeepers coached by Pep Guardiola.
“I’m always trying to help the team and do what the coaches ask me. I can do everything. You can always improve everything, but when it comes to what the coach asks me, I’m going to try to improve,” Donalma said at Italian training camp on Wednesday. “At Guardiola, we are confident we can do a great job.”
Donnarumma – One of the best shot stoppers in the world was a key figure in PSG’s run to the Champions League title last season, but was considered a surplus for requirements at French clubs. Lucas Chevalier’s signature from Lille last month.
His foot issues were also evident in occasional noticeable mistakes during his tenure at PSG.
“I’ve always done great things since I started playing at age 16 to this day. Mistakes always happen. But I think I’ve achieved great things,” said Donnarumma, whose save was decisive when Italy defeated England in the 2021 European Championship final.
Donnarumma replaces the city’s longtime Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson, who was sold to Fenerbahce.
Ederson helped revolutionize his goalkeeper position with his creepy calm under pressure with the ball at his feet, and, thanks to his long racking pass, he provided seven assists in the Premier League more than any other goalkeeper.
However, after signing a five-year contract, Donnarumma is the city’s future.
“They really wanted me, so I couldn’t wait to join the city. The coach really wanted me, and it made me proud.
Reunion with Gattuso
Before he joined City, Donnaruma is doing Italy and other high pressure work.
On Friday, Bergamo’s Azzuri host Estonia played Israel in Hungary in another qualifying three days later.
They’re their first match since the four-time champions took over coaching from Luciano Palletti, who was shot in June after a 3-0 loss to Haaland’s Norway.
Italy has three points from two matches. Norway has played four matches, leading Group I with 12 points, while Israel has scored the next point with six points from three matches.
“I was lucky enough to have Gatuso as a coach for (AC) Milan,” Donnaruma said. “I know what kind of person he is and he can bring. I’m happy to find him here again. We give Italy everything we need to bring it back to the top. We need to be humble and united to build teamwork.”
