Chelsea benefited from several controversial referee calls in a 2-0 victory over West London neighbour Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.
Joao Pedro gave Chelsea the lead with a corner header at nine minutes of first half stoppage time after a minimum of eight minutes of extra minutes was called.
It was even more furious, Marco Silva was already furious after Josh King’s 21-minute goal for his team was considered to have been engraved at the foot of Trevo Charova when Rodrigo Muniz protected the ball in a build-up.
Silva resorted to sarcasm laughs early in the second half after Chelsea was awarded a handball penalty against Ryan Sesegnon following another video review.
After a long delay, Enzo Fernandez, who had sent the corner for Joao Pedro’s goal, converted a spot kick into the middle of Stamford Bridge’s 56th day.
“Just watching the game as a manager, as a football lover, as a former soccer player, as a fan makes me feel really sad,” Silva said when asked for opinions on the referee’s decision. “Just that.”
Chelsea scored seven points from nine possible games in the first three games of the campaign, but Fulham still didn’t win.
In a Premier League match after Saturday, Manchester United were hoping to promote Burnley and bounce back from an embarrassing defeat in the English League Cup, but Tottenham won three times in a row to open a campaign in a home match against Bournemouth.
