CREMONA, Italy (AP) — Former Chelsea players Ruben Loftus Cheek and Christian Pulicic scored on Friday for beating host Rexe 2-0 in their first Serie A victory.
Actress Helen Mirren wore a yellow Lexe shirt and looked from the stands, but rarely thrilled the Home Fans or the Oscar-winning “Queen” star.
Milan choked two goals after a video review, but ultimately got what was counted mid-second half when Loftasteak rose above anyone else to a flight-free kick.
US striker Pulisic sealed the victory with a solid finish under the goalkeeper who advanced in the fourth minute.
This victory was a relief for Milan. Milan began the season with a shocking defeat at his newly promoted Cremonese home.
Lecce has one point from the first two games.
Cremonese wins again
Previously, Cremonese became the first newly promoted side to win their first two games since Sampdoria in 2012 after a 3-2 victory that fought hard 3-2 at Sasoulo’s home.
Reports in Italian media suggested that David Nicola’s side was approaching signing 38-year-old former Leicester City striker Jamie Birdie on Friday, but did not need help in front of the goal in the first half.
Filippo Terracciano placed the home side forward with a header 37 minutes and two minutes later.
Andrea Pinamonty’s skillful turn and strike brought visitors back to the second half of the 19th minute game before Domenico Berardi leveled the score with a penalty nine minutes later.
However, alternative Manuel de Luca’s 93rd minute spot kick was crucial for Cremonese, helping Sampdoria become the first newly promoted side to score the first two games in the top tier.
The result comes a week after beating AC Milan 2-1 at San Siro and puts the top of the table ahead of this weekend’s game. Sassuolo is pointless after two games.
