NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Sam Salridge and Honey Mukhtar both scored two goals at halftime, helping Nashville SC Brees get a 5-1 win at Orlando City on Saturday night.
Surridge used Mukhtar’s assist (his 10th) to score in three minutes, giving Nashville (15-8-5) a lead.
Mukhtar took a pass from defender Josh Bauer and scored in the 17th minute to get a 2-0 lead to Nashville. Bauer’s assist was his first career appearance in 54 career appearances, all along with Nashville.
Mukhtar scored the 14th goal with a 3-0 lead in the 40th minute, and after three minutes Surridge scored a 4-0 lead with the 20th goal.
Surridge’s Brace gives him 20 goals. More than one than Intermiami’s Lionel Messi in the Galden Boot Award race.
Mukhtar is one of five players with double-digit targets and is supporting this season.
Jacob Shafflberg notched his first two assists with the final two goals of the season, and first-year defender Jason Palacios won his first signing in his 19th appearance. Palacios added his first goal to keep the score in four minutes of the second half downtime.
Orlando City (13-7-8) avoided a shutout when Louis Muriel scored a career-high eight goals.
Joe Willis stopped the three shot at the goal for Nashville.
Pedro Gallase made four saves for Orlando City.
Nashville will snap three loss streaks by improving at home this season to 10-1-3. The club’s only home defeat was a 2-1 setback to FC Cincinnati, closing out March.
Orlando City fell 6-3-5 on the road after a four-game winning streak.
Orlando City will return to league play at DC United on September 13th. Nashville will remain idle until September 13th when he travels to play FC Cincinnati.
