MADRID (AP) – Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso started with Vinícius Junior on the bench for a Spanish league match in Oviedo on Sunday, but the Brazilian star came in the second half to create one goal and score another in a 3-0 victory for Madrid.
French striker Kylian Mbappé has taken a Madrid brace.
Madrid is one of three clubs that scored a 100% record after two games, but the top spot was filmed by Villarreal.
Osasuna beat Valencia 1-0, and Real Sociedad came from two goals to share with Espanyol in a 2-2 draw from two goals.
Vinicius has been brought several times to the first half of the visitor domination, being replaced by Brazilian teammate Rodrigo, who launched his first competitive match since Madrid’s opener at the Club World Cup in June.
However, it was another star forward who broke the deadlock eight minutes before halftime, with Mbappé beautifully controlling a pass from Arda Güler before firing a low shot into the far corner.
Real got 17 shots against just one of the newly promoted Oviedo in the first half, with another goal always appearing to be more likely. It was seven minutes from the end when Vinicius, who replaced Rodrigo, 63 minutes later, stole ownership in the middle, then steered Mbappe and piloted another low strike for the second goal.
Vinícius went 3-0 in stoppage time with a solid finish after a fast counterattack.
Tajon Buchanan’s Villarreal hat trick
Villarreal defeated Girona 5-0 to win the league top position ahead of defender champions Barcelona and Madrid.
Canadian midfielder Tajon Buchanan scored a hat-trick, while Rafa Marin and former Arsenal striker Nicholas Pepe each won one.
Girona has no points from the first two games, and the difference in the minus 7 goal is already difficult.
The result was a marker for Marcelino Garcia Toral’s Villarial, which quickly eased any euphoria.
“It’s just two games and the schedule means we both played from home,” he said. “This is a process. I’m proud and grateful to the players. It was a real joy. But this is only temporary. I’ll drink wine with my family and continue working.”
Osasuna wins at home
New Osasuna coach Alecio Rishi got his first home victory as he again proved his key Basque Country property by beating Valencia 1-0.
Budimir’s great header in the 9th minute was a difference in teams, but the home side was helped by Valencia captain Jose Gaya.
Gaya threw the captain’s armband onto the ground.
“I did that in a moment of anger,” he said the day he made his 313th appearance at the club. “It’s disappointing my teammate.”
Valencia is still sought a victory after last week’s opening draw against Real Sociedad.
As Espanyol draws, Mira scores again
A week after his late goal, Espanyol won Atletico Madrid 2-1 with Pere Mira scoring on a diving header, bringing the visitors to 1-0 at Sociedad.
Javi Puado doubled the lead before halftime, scoring from a penalty spot, after a video review gave him a second chance following the breaches surrounding Alex Remiro’s save.
But Ander Barrenetxea reduced the deficit past the hour mark when his shot deflected beyond the Espanyol Goal Keeper and eight minutes later Orri SteinnÓskarsson fired the house from a close angle to a level.
Espanyol is undefeated with four points from the first two games, but Real Sociedad has pulled out two games so far.
