MARSEILLE, France (AP) — Marseille players Adrien Rabiot and Jonathan Lowe cried out at a pub fight, coach Roberto deserbi said Friday.
There were French midfielder Rabiot and British under 21 Rows Put it on the forwarding list This week, the club told me to leave for the fallout of this week’s fight after the season-opening defeat at Rennes in the French league last Friday.
The de Zerbi player was initially temporarily removed from the team on Monday, but the situation had degenerated.
“It’s not Marseille’s fault, it’s his aides,” the coach said in a clear reference to Rabiot’s mother and agent Veronic Rabiot, who criticized Marseille’s senior officials.
The fury affected Marseille’s plans for the season, leaving just ten days in the transfer window, one month before the 1993 European Cup winner returns to the Champions League.
De Zerbi said he was troubled by Rabiot’s mother forgetting how much she supported her son, including becoming captain in her debut season at Marseille.
“No one can walk me or the club,” the Italian coach said, adding that he felt like a father to the players.
De Zerbi said he came from the street and saw a similar fight, but never had a football-like clash between Rabiot and Low.
“It was a fight, a brawl. It was something I’ve never seen in every year of my career,” said Deserbi, 46.
De Zerbi said Rabiot and Lowe must be separated into team bodyguards in Rennes’ chaotic scene.
Rabiot was sorry about what happened, the coach said, but Rowe reportedly is talking to Bologna about his move to Italy.
Marseille is hosting the newly promoted Paris FC on Saturday.
