COMMERCE CITY, Colorado (AP) – Colorado Rapids brings US men’s national team midfielder Pakten Arsonson from Germany’s Anthra Chat Frankfurt on a five-year deal to be held by 2030.
Rapids announced their contract on Thursday. The team did not announce the terms of the transfer, but said the fees were a record of the club. Aaronson will film the player slots designated on the Colorado roster.
This is a major addition to Rapids, currently ranked 7th in the Western Conference.
Aaronson, who turned 22 the following Tuesday, loaned out the 2024-25 season at FC Utrecht in Eredivisi, the Netherlands. He had nine goals and six assists in 37 league games.
“He has proven himself in Europe and has valuable experience on the international stage with the US men’s national team, bringing a dynamic and creative presence to our midfield,” Rapids President Padraig Smith said in a statement. “He is the exact type of young, hungry players we want to build with this club and we are pleased to welcome him to Colorado as we strengthen our teams that can compete at the highest level.”
Aaronson was a member of the US team that won the 2023-24 CONCACAF NATIONS League and advanced to the 2025 CONCACAF GOLD CUP final. He was also with the team at the 2024 Parisiolmpics.
He joined Entracht Frankfurt in 2023 and trained with the team this summer.
“Paxten demonstrated his potential both in preseason and in his appearances for us,” Timmo Hardung, sports director at Eintracht Frankfurt, said in a statement. “With his home country in sight, he has called for the next step at Colorado Rapids. We wish Paxten all the best and many successes for his future.”
Before Eintracht he played for the Philadelphia Union. At the Philadelphia Union, he began his professional career in August 2020 by signing a homemade player contract.
