NAPOLIERS, Italy (AP) — Napoli striker Romell Lukaku may need surgery after suffering a left thigh injury during preseason friendly, the Italian champion said Monday.
Belgian International replaced the Olympiacos 2-1 on Thursday.
Tests showed Lukaku had “high quality” damage to the thigh muscles in his left leg, Napoli said.
Napoli, who gave no potential time slots due to Lukaku’s absence, will begin defending the Serie title against Sasuro on Saturday.
Belgium also wants to know how serious the injury to the highest record scorer ever, as the team is scheduled for World Cup qualifiers in September, October and November.
