The Chicago star has selected former Norwegian women’s national team coach Martin Sjogren. National Women’s Soccer League The club’s new head coach.
Sjögren will join the star starting with the 2026 season after finishing off his current season as head coach for Hammarby at Sweden’s Damallsvenskan, the star announced on Wednesday.
“For me, this position as the Chicago Star’s head coach is a new challenge in a new league in a new country,” he said in a video posted on social media on Wednesday. “But for me the NWSL has always been a very interesting league, if it’s one of the most competitive leagues in the world, even if it’s the least competitive.
Sjogren coached Norwegian women from 2016 to 2022, leading the team to the quarterfinals of the 2019 Women’s World Cup. Norway also played under Sjogren at the 2017 and 2022 Women’s European Championships.
Sjoglen’s longtime assistant and friend Anders Jacobson has been named interim coach throughout the year and will join the team in the coming weeks, the team said. Current interim coach Elamasar will continue as assistant coach.

The star fired coach Lone Donaldson after winning only one of six games to start the NWSL season.

The star is currently 1-9-5 and sits second in the NWSL rankings.
