WALES, Wales (AP) – Wrexham striker Oly Palmer converted one of the team’s penalties in a dramatic shootout against Hull at the British League Cup on Tuesday, scoring two goals in one minute into stoppage time.
The Welsh club, owned by Hollywood celebrities Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, appeared to be heading for the first round as they chased 3-1 at the start of the extra time.
Palmer then converted the game into a shootout with headers 3-3 at the beginning and 2 minutes of the downtime as a 69-minute replacement.
Wrexham won 5-3 to move forward.
After three straight promotions, Wrexham – is now world-famous after the 2021 acquisition and the “Welcome to Welxham” fly-on-the-walled documentary – for the first time since the 1980s, performing at the second tier championship and opening the season. 2-1 loss at Southampton Saturday.
Palmer has played a leading role in documentaries, but has fallen into the striker pecking order for the past two years.
