NAON, Switzerland (AP) — UEFA punished Partizan Belgrade for more than $100,000 on Wednesday, ordering part of the Serbian club’s stadium, which was closed in one European match due to fans racist and political statements.
Fans displayed the “Kosovo is Serbia” banner and chanted discriminatory and offensive slogans in two home games in the conference league qualifying round.
The order of closing the 10,000-seat section of Partizan’s Stadium applies to the team’s next home game in a European contest. Partizan faced the possibility of elimination in Edinburgh on Thursday, chasing 2-0 from the first leg against Hibernian in the third qualifying round of the conference league.
