The Denver Summit acquired a forward Ally Watt in trade with Orlando Pride, making her the first player in the expansion club.
The summit will begin playing in the National Women’s Soccer League next season. As part of the deal announced Wednesday, Watt has been brought back to pride for the rest of the season.
Watt, a 28-year-old native of Colorado Springs, has been proud since 2022, making 73 appearances in all competitions with the club and scoring eight goals with six assists. She was also appointed to North Carolina courage and the reign of Seattle.
The announcement will be made one week after the summit has been announced Nick Cushing will become the team’s head coach.
“It’s an incredible honor to be the first player in Denver Summit FC’s history,” Watt said in a statement Wednesday. “As Coloradan, this opportunity means so much to me, representing a place that not only plays the games I love, but also shapes the place that is in front of people who mean the most to me.
Watt was signed by Denver until the 2028 season. Orlando will receive $75,000 in expanded allocation funds and $35,500 in league transfer funds as part of the trade.
“Ally is an exceptional contributor to our organization and when the opportunity arises to encourage a return to Colorado – she can help establish professional women’s football in her hometown – we knew that was the right decision.” “The loan structure through 2025 allows her to keep her valuable contributions on the field as she pursues her championship goals and also allows her to become part of Denver’s first NWSL season.”
Pride is the defending NWSL champion.
The Summit and Expansion Boston legacy will lead the NWSL to 16 teams next year.
