LONDON (AP) – Premier League teams will observe a momentary silence in the first round of this weekend’s match in honor of Liverpool forward Dio Gojota and his brother Andre Silva.
The Premier League spoke to Liverpool about the most appropriate way to remember Jota. He died in a car accident with his brother in Spain July.
Just like in the period of silence before kicking off in a match, players from all clubs will be given a black armband, but messages and images will be shared with the club and available on the big screen.
A tribute was paid to the brothers before Sunday’s community shield between Liverpool and Crystal Palace at Wembley Stadium, and a period of silence was placed on the pitch before kickoff.
A small number of palace fans broke the silence, elicit a strong response on the other side of the field, from other palace supporters who tried to silence those who were not respected.
