MADRID (AP) – Spanish women’s national team is changing their coaching two weeks after reaching the European Championship final.
Montseme will not renew his contract and will be replaced by former player Sonia Bermudes, the Spanish Football Federation said.
Another former Spanish player, Iran Iturelli, has been named the team’s second coach.
This decision was made by members of the federal board of directors after Tome led to Spain. Euro 2025 FinalHe lost to Britain in a penalty shootout on July 27th.
Tome has replaced former coach Jorge Wilda following the team’s 2023 World Cup title. She led Spain to her first Women’s Nations League title in 2024.
Tome was the first woman to coach a Spanish senior women’s team. She was a Builder assistant during the World Cup and was promoted to former federal president’s fallout Lewis Luviarez’s unconsensual kiss Player Jenny Hermoso at the World Cup awards ceremony held in Australia.
Spain has enjoyed some peace and stability as Rubiales was convicted of sexual assault on a kiss that sparked one of the worst crises in Spanish football.
The rage surrounding the scandal has led to widespread changes and improved circumstances in women’s national teams. Spanish society sought more support for women, and sports officials were ultimately forced to consider outdated protocols related to women’s teams.
Bermudes is an international Spanish club and has also played for Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, among other clubs. She retired as a player in 2020.
Bermudes coached the youth team of the Spanish national team. She was with a team currently under the age of 23.
The board that made the decision was made up of 30 members, half of which were women.
