CHESTER, Pa. (AP) — Deandre Kerr scored in the first minute of suspension time to tie the Philadelphia Union and Toronto FC into a 1-1 draw on Saturday night.
Kerr took part in the play this season as the leader of the Eastern Conference and Supporters’ Shield Races to help Toronto (5-13-7) score points against Union (15-5-6). Kerr won the equalizer after pitching to Ora Brinhildsen in the 76th minute.
Rookie midfielder Malik Henry notched his first assist with Kerr’s goal in his third appearance after joining the match in the 76th minute.
Philadelphia flew early when Indiana Vasirev scored his second goal of the season, taking a pass from Tai Chi Baribo in the four minutes. Baribo’s assist was his third.
Luka Gablant made three total saves in his first start in Toronto this season.
Andre Blake saved the three-shot for the union that beating Toronto 2-1 on the road in May.
Milan Iroski signed with the Union this week and made her debut in the second half.
Toronto had their first match against Djordje Mihailovic, who was bought from Colorado Rapids for a club record transfer fee.
Philadelphia defender Jakob Glesnes was tagged with a yellow card in the 29th minute, missing the next match of yellow card accumulation.
The union will fall to 10-1-4 at home. Their only loss was in Nashville in March.
Toronto leads the best ever series 14-12-9, but hasn’t won Chester since March 2019.
Union travels on Saturday to play the New York Red Bulls. Toronto will host Columbus crews on Saturday.
