Man United’s launch of cutting-edge training base hopes to bring it back to the football elite

MANSHETER, England (AP) — Manchester United hopes to launch a new “world-class” training complex on Friday, helping the fallen Giants return to the pinnacle of European football.

As Story Club aims to bounce back from the worst modern campaign, the club’s Carrington training-based £50 million ($67 million) revamp has been completed in time for the start of the new Premier League season.

“My favorite thing is that I don’t have any excuses now,” defender Diogo Darott said.

United have spent 12 years since winning the Premier League title in 2013, and last season they recorded a lowest finish when they finished 15th.

He also suffered a club record 18 loss in the Premier League and was unable to qualify for European competition, resulting in a total of 42 points.

“That’s what we’re trying to do on the pitch that clearly determines what we’re going to do and where we’re going to get the club back,” Darrot said.

However, he added that the new training centre means players have “everything needed to be in the best form, both mentally and physically.”

The company is equipped with state-of-the-art performance and rehabilitation equipment, including advanced training facilities. Sleep pods, oxygen chambers and cryotherapy treatment facilities will be added imminently.

The project was funded last year by minority owner Jim Ratcliffe as part of a $1.3 billion investment by a British billionaire.

“I hope it helps Manchester United to bring Manchester United, who needs to go,” he said.

Ratcliffe, who also outlined plans to rebuild the club’s iconic Old Trafford Stadium, said “we quickly decided that our staff and players would invest heavily in creating a world-class performance environment to reflect Manchester United’s ambitions and vision.”

“The clubs have to compete at the highest level, which suits the brand and the size and history of the club,” he said. “So, world-class training facilities don’t take us to that location alone, but that’s one of the key elements of the modern world.”

In addition to performance equipment, the campus redesign led by Architect Foster + Partners includes facilities such as a Barber Shop, Formula 1 simulator and pool tables, and includes padel courts installed at player requests.
