LIVERPOOL, England (AP) – Alexis McAlistair is on Liverpool’s team for Sunday’s Community Shield match against Crystal Palace.
Argentina International missed out on some of Liverpool’s preseason preparations when they recovered from injuries. However, he will be caught up in playing in the final two friendly matches between Yokohama F. Marinos and Atletico Madrid, and playing part of the match against Palace at Wembley, Arne Slot said.
“He’s been out for a long time because he didn’t play him for two months or the last four games of the season. He’s been training for the week now, playing 30 minutes and 45 minutes,” Slot said Friday. “So, that’s not a situation where you start a player… you play him for 90 minutes. You can start, but for 90 minutes it definitely isn’t.”
The 26-year-old Mac Allister’s final competitive game took place against Arsenal on May 11th. He missed the final two games of the Premier League champions season.
Last month, the midfielder said his absence was due to a series of issues, not a specific injury.
“It’s hard to explain because there’s not just one person saying, ‘OK, I have to focus on this,'” Mac Allister said. “It’s like two or three different things I’ve struggled with for a few months.
“In the end, we found a solution. We’ve done a lot of work in the gym with my structure.”
Liverpool defender Joe Gomez was removed from the game due to a “minor” injury, Slot said.
