MANSHETER, England (AP) — England midfielder James Madison will undergo surgery that has his ACL ruptured, Tottenham said Thursday.
Madison was injured in Spurs’ preseason friendly against Newcastle in Seoul. No time slot was given for his recovery.
“His surgery will take place in the next few days and following that, James will begin rehabilitation with our medical team,” Tottenham said in a statement. “Everyone at Tottenham Hotspur wants James to recover in a full and quick way.”
Recovery from ACL surgery can take 6 to 12 months. This means Madison could miss out on most of the season that starts next week.
This is the latest blow for Madison, 28, who missed a knee injury in the Europa League final last season.
“We’ll help him at every stage,” Tottenham said.
