A few months after surviving Car accident near fatMichail Antonio is a free agent after West Ham confirmed that Forward will not sign a new contract with the club.
Antonio, whose contract expired at the end of last season, has not played West Ham’s competitive game since the accident last December, has since represented Jamaica on the international stage.
“Everyone at West Ham United would like to thank Michelle for their outstanding dedication in their clarets and blue shirts over the past decade,” West Ham said in a statement.
The Premier League club also said it is discussing with 35-year-old Antonio about its future role in “alternative ability.”
Antonio required surgery for a fracture of his lower limb after hitting a Ferrari into a tree on a wet, windy day outside London on December 7th.
West Ham’s then manager, Julen Lopetegui, called the crash the outcome “miracle.”
In an interview with the BBC in March, Antonio said he had a “completely crushed” leg and realization left “How close am I to dying?”
He fractured a femur bone in four locations and said the surgeon would need surgery “to place a pole on the thigh with four bolts.”
Antonio said he was 100% certain he would play again and fulfilled his ambition when he came in June as an 85-minute replacement in a Gold Cup match against Jamaica’s Guatemala.
He made more substituted appearances for Guadeloupe and Panama.
He scored twice for West Ham’s under-21 development team in a match against Boreham Wood, but has not led to a contract extension for the club he played in since joining from Nottingham Forest in 2015.
“Missil will always be a very beloved and respected member of the West Ham United Family. As has been around since December, the club will continue to support and support his continued rehabilitation, providing access to training, facilities and medical care when needed,” West Ham said.
