FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Intermiami star Lionel Messi is dealing with mild muscle injuries to his right leg after being injured in the opening game of Saturday’s League Cup game, the club said Sunday.

Messi took a test on his right leg after experiencing discomfort after the play where he fell while being challenged by a pair of Necaxa defenders. Intermiami won the game Penalty kick.

His return timeline is still unknown, but it appears unlikely that he will be available for the next League Cup match against Miami’s UNAM PUMAS on Wednesday.

InterMiami said in the release that Messi’s medical clearance depends on how it responds to treatment.

Messi slapped his hand on the ground in frustration after the fall that took place in the first 10 minutes of Saturday’s game. He sat on the pitch and then walked slowly towards the Inter Miami bench. The trainer came out and worked in the thigh area on the top right for a few minutes before heading out to Federico Redondo on the 11th. He then immediately walked to the locker room.

Miami coach Javier Mascherano said Messi was in pain after the game.
