According to information from journalist Fabrizio Romano, City viewed Sullivan as a “future elite talent” and therefore decided to early integrate him into the club’s ecosystem on the Etihad campus.

Sullivan signed the most important home country contract in MLS history with the Philadelphia Union, making his professional debut against the New England Revolution in July 2024 at just 14 years old, breaking the record as the youngest player to make his debut in the US professional league.
Since then, he has played 13 games with his first team and has continued to participate in MLS Next Pro.
Under the direction of new head coach Bradley Kernell, the youth gradually merged into the team. In the first 20 games of the 2025 season, he played just 51 minutes with five alternative appearances.
However, in June he took a step forward by playing 120 minutes in his first start with the Indy Eleven in the US Open Cup, followed by another 16-round start with the Pittsburgh Riverhound.
On July 5th, Sullivan began his first MLS start, playing 61 minutes in a 1-0 loss at Nashville SC. He became the second youngest player in league history to start the game.

Considered a “generational talent” by former coach Jim Curtin, Sullivan has been in the media spotlight since his debut.
Curtin described him as a player who “can change the game on his own” thanks to his ability to unbalanced.
His current coach, Kernel, chose a careful approach. “Sometimes he’s normal at this age. He’s still physically lacking, but he’s a very talented boy… he’s where he needs him,” he said after the match against Nashville.
