On Sunday, AC Milan secured all three points in the Derby Della Madonnina clash against their city rival, Inter. Paulo Fonseca’s side won the exciting match 2-1, which also prompted the Rossoneri players to voice their support towards the coach.

Milan Bounce Back With a Win Against Inter After Disappointment in Europe

Milan didn’t arrive for that Sunday match in the best possible fashion as they went through massive criticism following their 3-1 home loss against Liverpool in the Champions League last midweek. Following a rather slow start in the league, there were already negative voices echoing against Fonseca, despite the coach having just arrived this summer in place of Stefano Pioli.

However, those negative voices were eventually shut down as the Rossoneri took down their rival and Serie A defending champions, Inter 2-1. Just like their midweek game, Milan made a bright start and took the lead through Christian Pulisic’s excellent effort after just 10 minutes of play.

The Nerazzurri managed to draw level through Federico Dimarco’s close-range finish in the 27th minute but Matteo Gabbia’s header late in the game secured all three points for Milan. The away team arguably deserved to win that game as they did finish the game stronger, creating more clear-cut chances and would be disappointed if they didn’t get all three points.

Milan Win Showed Players’ Support for Fonseca

The Red and Black squad’s massive win in a way also shows to the public eye that they remain close and supportive of their new boss, Fonseca. Outside of the result, Milan showed a strong and solid performance throughout the game which is always a sign that the players are willing to fight it out for their tactician who has been under scrutiny.

Further proof of the Rossoneri’s support for Fonseca was stated by the club’s hero on the night, Gabbia who spoke to the media after the match. The defender said to DAZN IT that he and his teammates have always been on the coach’s side regardless of what was said by the press. Moreover, Milan’s youth product defender also hopes that they can maintain the spirit and performance for upcoming matches as well.

“We are always by the coach’s side no matter what was said outside of the group,” Gabbia revealed.

“This kind of performance and spirit should always be the norm. Giving everything makes the fans happy and makes it easier for us. It’s our job to train well and do our best on the pitch so we won’t have any regrets after ninety minutes,” the defender added.

The Rossoneri’s Sunday victory over Simone Inzaghi’s men was also their first in their last six meetings across all competition. Milan will now hope that the positive result can really get their new season going after a rather unconvincing start so far this season.
