Liverpool are keen to offer Arne Slott a new contract, with his agent reportedly already working on a deal. The 47-year-old Dutchman had an impressive debut season on Merseyside, leading Liverpool to their second Premier League title in 35 years and a place in the Carabao Cup final. Slott’s smooth transition following Jurgen Klopp’s departure was unexpected for many, but he quickly filled the void left by the Reds’ legendary manager.
He signed a three-year contract when he was appointed in May 2024, but with less than half of that period passed, Liverpool are showing interest in extending his contract. According to the Mail, Anfield bosses are hoping to move quickly as the former Feyenoord boss could be in the final year of his contract next season. This could be a risk for Fenway Sports Group and could mirror the saga involving Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold last season.
It is worth noting that FSG offered Klopp a new six-year contract just nine months after he took over as manager. The report also said Slott’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, was already working on new terms.
When asked in May about the possibility of signing a new contract after winning the Premier League title in near-record time, Slott’s answer surprised no one. Since taking over, he has avoided getting drawn into contract or transfer speculation.
“I don’t think my answer will surprise you,” Slott confessed. “I always try to stay away from that kind of thing (speculation), completely, if at all possible. So off the record is the same as on the record.”
“I don’t talk about contracts in public, and I like that a lot, because if you start talking too much off the record, it makes life a lot harder. I’m always going to say the same thing on the record and off the record. So I don’t say anything, and I don’t say anything that I think I should say.”
But Slott had built a legacy at Liverpool and harbored the idea that it could outlast Klopp’s nine-year tenure. “It’s hard to say, but I saw it, yes,” he added.
“But I think football in general has changed. There aren’t many managers who stay at a club for nine years because nine times out of 10, someone on the board or someone at the club became dissatisfied at a certain moment.”
“A lot has changed over the last few years, especially in England. This club has a long history of having managers, and we saw that with Arsene Wenger at Arsenal and Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
“But in general, I don’t think you need that much patience, both in football and in life. Maybe England is an exception. So I thought I could work here for a long time, because this is a great club and I’m really happy here.”
