Steven Gerrard deserves a statue outside Anfield for his achievements on the pitch, but the club have shown him enough respect since he left that they can live without one.
Steven Gerrard insists he doesn’t need a statue of himself erected outside Anfield to make Liverpool feel valued.
Homegrown hero Gerrard is considered by some to be Liverpool’s greatest ever player. The midfield icon scored 186 goals in 710 appearances during his 17-year career on Merseyside.
During that time, he won nine major trophies, including the 2005 Champions League, which he made his famous comeback against AC Milan in Istanbul. Legendary managers Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley have statues erected outside the stadium to commemorate their achievements.
But no other player, including Gerrard and Kenny Dalglish, has been given the same honour. Still, Garrard appeared as a guest on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast and insisted he was cool about it. Because I still feel the love and respect every time I go back to Anfield.

Gerrard said: “I have a lot of respect and I think the club has given me more than that.
“If you knew what that club did for me, not just throughout my career, but from the moment I stopped being a Liverpool player. If you knew the respect that club gave me, it would blow your mind. It would blow your mind.
“The phone call from the top, what they did for me and my family, the invitation, the care, the respect from the club after the player, it will blow your mind.
“I don’t need a statue to feel my love for Liverpool. Enough is enough. Enough is enough. Since the day I retired, my respect for Liverpool has only grown stronger, deeper and dearer.
“Because in my mind, I thought you joined the team in no time…Since I stopped playing for Liverpool Football Club, Liverpool Football Club has given me more love, care and respect.”
