Victor Gokeres made an excellent start to life at Arsenal after joining from Sporting Lisbon in the summer. The striker received praise from Gary Lineker and Sweden manager John Dahl Tomasson.
Gary Lineker and Sweden manager John Dahl Tomasson have similarly praised Arsenal striker Viktor Gökeres for his impressive start to the season. The Gunners star gave his all at the Emirates Stadium following his summer move from Sporting Lisbon.
Gökeres’ future was a hot topic before his move from Sporting to Arsenal in the summer for a fee of £63.7 million (€75 million including add-ons), but he has already scored three goals for the Gunners this season. Although he has yet to match his prolific goal-scoring record with Sporting, the 27-year-old still enjoys high praise for his performances in north London and beyond.
Lineker is among those who have praised Gokeres recently. And he explained why he’s confident the frontman will find his scoring spikes again soon.

“He hasn’t scored a ton of goals yet, but I think Victor Gokeres gives them something different,” Lineker said on the latest episode of the Rest is Football podcast.
“He poses a threat in behind them, creates more space for midfield and even wide players, likes to spin with his aggressive runs and attacks spaces in the box.”
“Especially now that Bukayo Saka is back in the team and looks like his old self after the injury. The goals will come to him thanks to the service he will inevitably get.”
“So I think it’s very promising for Arsenal. I think they could have a very good title fight this season.”
Lineker’s assessment has been backed by Tomasson, who plans to link up with Gökeres when the striker joins the Sweden squad for upcoming international matches. The national team coach explained why Gokeres continues to be an influence even when he doesn’t find the back of the net, highlighting how his play benefits his teammates.
“Viktor Gokeres is in very good shape at the moment, in very good condition,” Tomasson said this week. “If people say he doesn’t have an impact (on the game), they don’t understand football and they don’t have a clue about football.
“He creates space for other players, he works on the ball, he makes runs. It’s great, he almost always scores, so he’s influential and very good. When you come to a new club you need time, so that’s always great.”
