Real Madrid winger Rodrygo, who was linked with a sensational move to Arsenal and Liverpool in the summer, has revealed the factors that led to his departure from the Santiago Bernabéu.
Real Madrid star Rodrygo has revealed he will only leave the club if he is no longer needed, amid growing interest from Liverpool and Arsenal. The Brazilian was linked with a move to Anfield and the Emirates in the summer.
Despite obvious interest, neither Premier League team took notice of his exploits and he ended up remaining in Spain. Rodrygo has found his opportunities at Real Madrid limited this season.
The 24-year-old has started just two games in all competitions. Despite this, he appears to be in no hurry to leave the Santiago Bernabéu and has revealed that he will only look elsewhere if the club tells him he is no longer needed.
“The same thing happens to me every summer, whether I leave or whether I have an offer from this club or another,” he told Spanish outlet AS.
“I was on the team if I paid attention to what was published every week. Of course, there are always offers, I’m not going to lie about that.”

“But I’ve always made it clear to the club that I want to continue to be successful here, more successful than ever. It’s tough to win the Champions League twice at your age, but now I want to play more European Cups in this shirt.”
“I’ve always said, ‘As long as Real Madrid needs me, I’ll be here.’ If one day Real Madrid say to me, ‘Rodri, find a team,’ I’ll say, ‘Okay.’ But that didn’t happen. The club always told me they had faith in me.
“And when I had problems, they helped me. People speculated because I was silent. But I knew what I would do this season at Real Madrid and I was going to focus on doing my best. It didn’t bother me. I was calm, and I’m here…as always. This is my seventh season.”

Meanwhile, Rodrygo also admitted that he had held talks with manager Xabi Alonso about his role within the team after the Club World Cup. He added: “When the manager arrived, he called me in to talk and said, ‘I know you like to play on the left, but we need you in other positions as well.'”
“I said to him, ‘Okay, manager, I’m here to help the team.’ We all know that I prefer to play on the left and I’m much better on the wing, but I’m always available for the team to play on the right or as a number nine and I told him that. To tell you the truth, he’s just putting me on the left and I like the level of minutes I’m getting.
“I’m doing well, but logically I want to play more. I’m in the process of evolution, getting better and better, and I feel happy. My performances are getting better and better.”
Rodrygo has just under three years left on his Real Madrid contract. Arsenal were able to strengthen their wide range of options late on with the signing of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace, while Liverpool signed Alexander Isak for a British record fee.
