Jack Wilshire ended up not being able to take on Norwich City after a brief interim manager, but expectations for the former Arsenal star’s manager may soon be over.
It is argued that former Arsenal and England star Jack Wilscher could potentially take on his first permanent manager. The 33-year-old is one of Luton Town’s top candidates after the Hatters came to know about Matt Bloomfield on Monday.
While playing in the FA Youth Cup final, Wilshire, who was headed by Arsenal’s Under-18 team, tasted the taste of senior management during his interim manager last season at Norwich City. He oversaw victory and draw in two championship games with the Canaries, but his permanent mission was put off.
However, he continues to be eager to return to senior management, and is considered a promising successor to Kenilworth Road among several bookmakers. Bloomfield took over in January to replace the Hatters, who were in relegation issues, but they were unable to save the Hatters from being relegated as they fell from the Premier League to League One in just two years.
Several players still survived in the Premier League under manager Rob Edwards, but their performance in the third tier has been mixed. Luton fired Bloomfield, who had only scored 16 points in 11 games, and his weekend defeat against Stevenijing was his final straw.
“The board has made the difficult decision to dismiss Matt, its assistant Richard Thomas, first-team coach Lee Harrison and first-team analyst Ben Sarn as the performance and results of the 11 league games in the season fell short of expectations,” the club said. “The board thanked Matt, Richard, Lee and Ben for their efforts during these difficult times for the clubs and wishing them the best of their future careers.”

Back in August, Wilscher was part of Norwich’s coaching team under Johannes Hof Thorpe, and later briefly took command of himself, but declined a chance to return to Arsenal. This decision coincided with his desire to pursue a senior position in an interview with The Athletic.
“As a player, I’m involved in these things, but it’s completely different when you’re on the other side and you’re leading a team,” he said. “My ambition is to be a head coach. I don’t know when it will be, but I hope to do it someday.”
When Norwich decided on a new permanent manager, it was Liam Manning who agreed. The 39-year-old has more experience at the championship level than Wilshire, joining after leading Bristol City to the playoffs last season.
After winning two wins in the first two away games, Manning’s team saw its fortunes falling. They had no wins in five league matches and lost to strong rival Ipswich Town over the weekend.
