Wayne Rooney swipes through Liverpool’s Mohamed Sarah, questioning his work ethic, suggesting that the arrival of a high-profile signature may have stopped Egyptian ego. The Reds are upset after their third consecutive defeat. This time they lost to Chelsea 2-1 in the Premier League.
The former Everton and Manchester United forwards have not refrained from his criticism of Sarah following Liverpool’s disappointing performance on Enzo Maresca’s side. Estebao Willian’s last minute goal sealed the loss of Arne Slot’s team and prevented them from regaining their top position in the league.
Rooney suggested that the recent arrival of Alexander Isaac, Hugo Echicchike and Florian Wiltz could have had a volatile Sarah. He said: “When players come in, Isaac, (Hugo) Ekichike, and the money they spent on them, Wirtz, what does Sarah think now?”
“Top players have ego and Mo Salah has been one of the best players in the league for a long time.
“I think last week, when it worked, you showed you were scoring goals and winning the game.
“I know he doesn’t always go back and defend, but in Chelsea’s game, his fullback is torn apart and he’s watching.
“I know that players like Van Dick and Allison weren’t playing, but the dressing room leader should tell him you need to help with that, and for me, that was a concern.
“In my opinion, he got lost a little last week.”
Rooney has previously expressed concern that a prominent move from Newcastle may have a volatile Sarah. Earlier this season, he suggested that Liverpool could be “unfortunate” with Sweden’s arrival.
“Even if Sarah has been Liverpool’s best player for years, he is not pleased that Isaac has come and is attracting attention,” he commented in September.
“It’s a matter of personal pride, he’s going to want to be the best.
“When I signed Tevez, there were many reports that they were worried they wouldn’t be able to play together. But as soon as I signed the player I was thinking, ‘There’s no way he’s coming for me.’
