The appointment of managers that seemed like a disaster from a spiral that went out of control as quickly as Ange Postecoglou in Nottingham Forest. The decision to plunder Nuno Espirito Santo and hire a highly misused Australian was similar to turning off the airbag and driving his head onto a brick wall 100 mph.
Unnecessary, and some will say careless rolls of dice that have left the forest in free fall. Nuno has already risen elsewhere (although I don’t know if London Stadium can be accurately described as a safe haven).
Who would have thought of a team sculpted by a manager who burns and crashes when ideals focused on soccer counterattacks crashes and burns and crashes and burns when it was taken over by a coach about keeping the ball pushing? If Nuno and Anji were politicians, they would argue with each other from the other side of the political spectrum.
The best time to fire Postecoglou was right after he hired him, but for Evangelos Marinakis and Forest, it’s the second best time to be re-didated right now. It would prove a welcome show of humility from the controversial Marinakis who had certainly had his detractors from the wider world of football recently.
A simple acceptance that he and the forest decision maker were doing things wrong. In the seven matches that Postecoglou took over, the two European champions have yet to win one. They are hovering just above the relegation zone, already knocked out of the League Cup, staring at the barrels of the early exit from the Europa League.
In the past two seasons, the threat of relegation has not even surpassed Forest’s mind, but after seven games this season, things seem different. Leeds United and Sunderland were not afraid to invest in their team.
Have you noticed that Forest hasn’t been dragged into a relegated dogfight later? With the pressure to play at least eight Sundays on Thursday and Sunday due to European commitments, the situation appears dark to a tricky tree. Marinakis must act now. Because if not, the forest could be left in fear of the worst.
