Just as Manchester City reasserted itself as a challenger, Pep Guardiola reminded Liverpool of the fact that he was ready to crown the Premier League champions weeks ago before their sharp recession. Erling Haaland’s first half finish came a 1-0 win at Brentford as City moved two points to Rigine Champions Liverpool and two points to Table Toppers Arsenal.
City had previously been discounted in the title race after losing two of their first three games to Tottenham and Brighton. However, four unbeatens, including a draw at Arsenal, rekindled their beliefs. Guardiola has made Premier League history at Brentford, earning 250 wins in just 349 games, making him faster than any other manager in division history. The Catalan coaches outperformed Arsene Wenger and Alex Ferguson, who won 423 and 404 games respectively to reach the same milestone.
City jumps to fifth in the league table, with Guardiola looking optimistic. His side is once again a title contender after last year’s barren season. As they tried to regain the crown from Liverpool, he rubbed salt into the wounds after the Reds suffered consecutive losses to waste an eight-point gap on their citizens.
Guardiola praised Matchweiner’s Haaland as the “best” striker in the business, expressing his belief that his team would once again become a serious candidate, as his team is only improving. “It’s only seven games for the Premier League,” Guardiola said.
“It appears Liverpool won the Premier League three weeks ago, but that’s not the case now. It’s important to see the team better. Liverpool, like Arsenal, is improving and improving, helping us play, how we defend, and get closer to the fight.
“I’ve been really happy this month since the Man United game. We’re there and feel we’re getting better.”
Guardiola responded to the 250-win milestone, saying, “We’ve won a lot! Otherwise we won’t be able to receive this admiration without winning many games. It’s an honor for me to be with Ir Alex Ferguson and Arsen Wenger, so I’ll invite you to a delicious dinner.
“Maybe the sun would be better, not Manchester, maybe. No, we’ll do it in Manchester. It’s an honor and a joy to be part of Premier League history.
“I would like to thank the clubs, organizations, players and staff because the staff we had were faster, faster, better and really happy.
Haaland has made the game better by becoming a father, revealing that he tells Sky Sports:
“When you’re young, you may be thinking about this and worrying about it, but when you get home it’s more relaxed. I think you need to scream at your son!”
