Liverpool lost 2-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, with Arneslot’s side enduring a three-game loss and dropping points behind Arsenal in Premier League standings
Gary Neville claimed that Aan Slot was “irritated” with Ibrahima Konate amid Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea. Sky Sports critics admitted he was troubled by the lack of urgency of the defender, but the Reds boss revealed that it was not the reason he replaced him.
The Premier League champions were heading for a share of Splis, but succumbed to a devastating 96-minute strike from Estebao, and Stamford Bridge set out empty-handed.
However, Liverpool’s troubles began well before Chelsea’s dramatic winner. The slot side was delayed within 14 minutes of opening due to a mysterious strike from Moises Caseko, justly chasing 1-0 at intervals.
The manager made one change at halftime and introduced Florian Wiltz to Connor Bradley. Then, Liverpool Echo has reported that he will implement an additional replacement for just 10 minutes in the second season. One of these switches forced Konate to withdraw for Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch to stop by and operate as the emergency central half.

Neville felt that Liverpool was eager to not be able to build play from behind as the slots sought the leveller against the confident Chelsea and connate for not showing urgency. The former Manchester United man said on Sky Sports:
“It’s making me annoyed and it’s honestly bothering me, he’s obviously an annoying slot as he decides to get a better guy with the ball in the back.
“That’s strange from Conate. I don’t know what he was trying to do, so I could see it coming just like he intervened.
However, Slot reveals that his reason for retracting Conate is actually falling into a knock. He explained after the match:
“And I asked him, and he said, “I feel a little bit of my quad.” But for me, all the alarm bells go off. Because in another sprint, I don’t know if it will work, so that was already an alternative I had in mind a bit later.
“So it might be okay, he left early enough, but it was clear he had to take off him because he was limping.”
The tactical switch in the slot had almost instantaneous influence as Liverpool found rhythm and gained foothold in the match. Cody Gapppo leveled his score just seven minutes after the double change, and his strike seemed enough to secure a point on the away side that wasted a draw at Crystal Palace last weekend.
But like Selhurst Park, Liverpool couldn’t maintain his position. Slot said: “We lost to Chelsea last season.
“Stanford Bridge is always difficult. We were very close to the outcome. Small margins. As I said at Galatasaray, we received a penalty. We admitted extra time against the palace. And today they got to which end they could go.
“After we scored 1-1, it went our way and I think I was waiting for a second score. The decision could be better and the last 10-15 minutes were end-to-end.
“We arrived at an 18-yard box with (Andy) Robertson. We couldn’t control the ball, but it’s a subtle margin as far as I’m here. Last week, the finer margins were good for us, just like in the two tough games this week.”
Liverpool heads for an international break, sitting second at the table one point behind Arsenal. Their next game will be their home game against Manchester United on Sunday, October 19th.
