Reuben Amorim challenged the Manchester United players to prove their commitment to him after his victory over Sunderland. The first half strike from Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesco gave Amorim a significant victory, which eased pressure on the United manager before the international break.
Amorim claimed that his team supported him and did not want another administrative change, but they demanded that this commitment be demonstrated through consistent performance – a trip to Anfield faces against Liverpool and the Red Devils. “I witnessed it today and they want to give their utmost and I understand that they don’t want to change coaches all the time,” Amorim said. “But, as I said this week, being with a manager is, ‘I commit suicide to go all the transitions.’
“We need to show it in action, and sometimes when we look at the team, when we look at the game, we know that in the end we can do better.
“Our teams don’t have momentum. We know what happens when we win one game. Frustration isn’t about looking at the same team at home or away.
“We didn’t play well in the second half, but we focused and fought hard for the second ball. Those little things help us win the game.”
Amorim gave United debut goalkeeper Senne Lammens his first appearance, praised the way deadline acquisitions were composed to manage the opportunity.
“Sennes worked very well,” Amorim said. “The important thing is that his teammates have helped him to perform very well.”
