Hugo Ekitike responded after being nominated for the latest French national team team despite being injured in Liverpool’s Champions League loss on Tuesday. Ekitike, 23, got off to a fierce start to his Reds career, scoring five goals and providing one assist in nine appearances in all competitions.
After missing a 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace in the suspension, Ekitique returned to the first XI for a trip to Istanbul, but retreated in 68 minutes after being injured. “He said he couldn’t continue, so we had to take him off. Let’s see how he’s going on over the weekend,” Liverpool head coach Arne Slot said after Ekitique was forced against Galatasaray.
The former Eintrack Frankfurt striker is suspected of a clash between Liverpool and Chelsea on Saturday, but he is still the second time selected for the French senior force. Rebrus faces Azerbaijan on Friday, October 10th, and Iceland will face Azerbaijan on Monday, October 13th with a World Cup qualifying doubleheader.
After France confirmed that Ekitique would appear on these two fixture teams, he responded to the important news and shared the French announcement to his story. He is also included in the French team for an international break in October. There is Liverpool teammate Ibrahima Conete, but Crystal Palace’s Jean Philippe Mateta was rewarded with his first call.
Ekitique wasn’t the only player who was injured during the match against Galatasaray. Goalkeeper Allison was kicked off the pitch for what appears to be a hamstring issue after making a save to deny Victor Osimhen.
After the match, slot confirmed that the Brazilian goalkeeper will not be available for future matches at Stamford Bridge. “If my player is on the floor, nine out of 10 are afraid of the worst, and the worst means he can’t continue,” Slot said. “If you go out like this, it’s never positive. You can be sure he’s not playing on Saturday.”
Following the incident, Allison shared two photos of the game at Rams Park on Instagram on Thursday morning. He was omitted from the Brazilian team for two best friends during an international break in October.
