Manchester United’s summer transfer business has been the subject of much debate as their struggle continues, with Reuben Amorim missing out on some key targets
As Manchester United’s early struggle continued, manager Reuben Amorim was attacked with his tactical decisions and team selection. Amorim’s biggest critics have questioned whether his team is suitable for the 3-4-2-1 formation where the Portuguese boss claims to use.
The result was three losses in six Premier League matches, resulting in an early exit from the Carabao Cup to Grimsby Town. However, questions remain on United’s summer recruitment strategy. Especially whether the Red Devils spending over £200 million on six new players would be wise.
Ineos missed out on some key targets before bringing in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko. And we now turn our attention to the three famous players who Amorim failed to sign, showing how they have carried it since Old Trafford’s move failed.

Hugo Ekitike
Liverpool has pipped Newcastle for Hugo Ekicchike’s £799 million transfer from Entracht Frankfurt. However, the Anfield Club was also able to thwart an attempt by fierce rival Manchester United to dive towards the striker in the 11th hour.
Athletic reported that Old Trafford powers tried to stun Liverpool by bidding late to the French during the transfer period. But by that point, Ekitique had already violated his future to the Premier League champions.
Since then, United have been left to Ekitique’s decision, as the forwards have not waste time setting himself up for British football. He managed to score five goals in nine appearances, while impressing the overall play of the link-up. After not bringing in other forward options such as Viktor Gyoker and Liam Delap, Amorim ultimately signed Sesko for the first £66.3 million, but the Slovenian struggled and scored one goal so far.
Emiliano Martinez
The Aston Villa goalkeeper was rumoured to be on the brink of a deadline to travel to Old Trafford following a string of failures from United Keepers Altai Bayindeal and Andre Onana at the start of the season. Martinez appears to have said goodbye to his villa and is dropped by Unai Emery.
However, despite his interest in Argentine shot stoppers, the Red Devils decided to sign the Royal Antwerp Senne Run Mens instead. That was due to the young age profile of Lammen, low wages and the vast £40 million villas demanding a winner in their aging World Cup.
As the hopeful movement for United fell, Martinez returned between the villain’s sticks. Oddly, Lammens hasn’t played the game yet for United. Error-prone Bayindir is preferred by Amorim.
Carlos Valleva
Central Midfield has long been considered a problematic position on the United team. Brighton’s 21-year-old starlet Karos Valleva was identified as an upgrade in early August. Despite reports that United’s intermediaries contacted Segal about a potential deal, Brighton Chief Paul Barber denied these claims and dismissed the transfer link as “speculation.”
Brighton reportedly demanded more than £100 million from Cameroonians. That rating turned out to be too sudden for United to meet, as United eventually declined.
The dynamic midfielder continues as a regular starter for Brighton, featuring eight games in all competitions, but he has yet to play a full 90 minutes or provide goals or assists. His show, which was among the last campaign of their most trusted performers, was not as impressive this season, and it seemed that players were experiencing the move.
Fabian Hazeler admitted that after a 2-2 draw with Tottenham, Valeva is still not physically 100%. “Everyone has to understand at Carlos, he’s a very young player,” said Brighton’s head coach. “He’s not a machine. He needs help from us. He tried everything today. He only had 45 minutes in his body. That’s something we have to accept.”
Hurzeler also spoke about whether the transfer speculation had an impact on Cameroon International. “It’s all a lot of theory,” he said. “We can only speculate. Certainly, when a young boy reads that he is interested in a big offer from Manchester United, it may have a deep impact on him. Even if he doesn’t say it, ‘It affects me,’ maybe inside him, something affects him. ”
